Understanding RSD

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) is an intense emotional response to perceived rejection, criticism, or failure.

Key Characteristics

  • Extreme emotional pain triggered by rejection or criticism
  • Intense mood swings
  • Perfectionism to avoid criticism
  • Social withdrawal or people-pleasing behaviors
  • Difficulty regulating emotions

Who Experiences RSD?

RSD is most commonly associated with ADHD, affecting up to 99% of teens and adults with ADHD. However, it can also occur in individuals with autism, anxiety disorders, or other neurodivergent conditions.

Research and Science

Recent neuroimaging studies show that people with RSD have heightened activity in brain regions associated with emotional processing when experiencing rejection.
